As an American coming of age in the 50s and 60s Bill Skelton's musical "influences" tracked with the development of Rock, R&B and contemporary Jazz. The popularity of Folk during the late 50s drove an interest in the roots of "American" music grew and lead into a life long interaction with Jazz and its roots and derivatives. 'Round Midnight explores the ongoing development of Jazz. Bill's play lists frequently cross over to these related genres and pull together a mix of influences showcasing related instrumentation and styles that Bill pulls under the Jazz umbrella.

Bill shifted to Lyttelton in 2004 with his partner, Anne, whom he met in the States. Anne, a Harbour native, introduced Bill to the beauty and pleasures of Lyttelton in the early 80s. Having lived for the previous 25 years in large cities Bill and Anne are now immersed in the Lyttelton atmosphere and sense of community. Bill is active with the Lyttelton Harbour Business Association and the Lyttelton Historic Gaol Trust. Following his love for music, the opportunity to share his extensive Jazz collection through Volcano Radio has become a fundamental element in Bill's engagement with the Lyttelton community and greater Harbour residents.
